PUBLIC ALARM SYSTEM
We maintain and install a public alarm system for the Slovenian Civil Protection and Rescue Administration. Today, the system (SIJA) serves as the backbone for informing and alerting the population in the event of a natural disaster or other emergencies. It includes more than 1,000 sirens, which we have been maintaining for more than 25 years.
TDI played a key role in the introduction of the first pilot remote siren activation system and in establishing the entire public alarm system in the Republic of Slovenia. Over time, we have continuously upgraded the system by adding new sirens, control centers, and digital enhancements.
The system is autonomous, allowing it to operate even during outages of other communication networks and, for a limited time, without electrical power – ensuring functionality during major natural disasters and other emergencies.
It operates via a digital radio communication network.
Advantages of the SIJA system
Activation of various alarm signals or voice messages
Audio announcements directly in affected areas throughout Slovenia
Automated testing without disturbing the population
Monitoring device status and real-time error notification
Remote and central control from notification centers
Reliable connection via a permanently monitored radio point (VRT)
Operation of SIJA
The SIJA system consists of:
– alarm control panels in the Information Centre of the Republic of Slovenia and regional information centres with the appropriate SIJAS software
– radio entry points in regional information centres
– peripheral stations, i.e. electronic sirens
– operation via a private digital radio communication system
Local control and monitoring
In the field, the sirens are controlled via the control panel or additional digital inputs. It is possible to choose between different audible alarms, play pre-recorded voice messages and perform tests without disturbing the surroundings. The system also allows for fault detection (e.g. power supply, speakers, cabinet) and real-time status monitoring.
Remote control from the control center
From the Information Center of the Republic of Slovenia and regional centers, operators can trigger individual or group alarms, send voice messages and monitor the operation of the entire system. All devices are included in a single SIJAS software environment, which allows:
– remote switching on/off of sirens,
– checking device status (power supply, amplifiers, radio connections),
– detection of possible sabotage or local activations,
– notifying the operator in the event of a connection failure.
Reliable connection
The data flow between the sirens and the control center is carried out via a radio entry point (VRT), which connects the radio network to the server system. The operation of the VRT is constantly monitored – automatically or manually.
Regular testing
Every 1st Saturday of the month, the system is activated and tested “live” with the “end of danger” alarm signal – a monotonous siren sound lasting 30 seconds. The system is also independently tested every day using a 20 kHz signal, which is inaudible to humans. This allows us to remotely monitor and verify the status of the system and each individual siren on a daily basis.
Data archiving
All siren activations, warnings and statuses are stored in an archive with date and time and are also accessible at higher levels of the system (e.g. national CORS).
